Creating Stand-Alone Ebooks

HTML Executable User Question:

By making your ebook stand-alone, users won't need to download/install anything else. They will just need your ebook .exe file. This article explains you how to make your ebook stand-alone.

Ebooks made with HTML Executable require a common program called a runtime module (or runtime viewer). To allow you to make smaller ebooks, this runtime module can be distributed and installed separately as it is the same for all ebooks made with HTML Executable. But in this case, users first need to install the runtime module in order to view your ebooks.

Now you can also include the runtime module in your ebook .exe file so you do not need to distribute/install the runtime module to users. Therefore your ebook will be a real stand-alone ebook that does not require any other program to be run.

To create a stand-alone ebook in HTML Executable, just follow these steps:
  1. select "Publication Output" Step 1
  2. select "Advanced Options" and then "Runtime Viewer" Step 2
  3. enable "Merge the HTML Executable Viewer engine with the publication .exe file" Step 3
  4. optionally enable "Do not install the viewer on the user computer" if you do not want your ebook to install the runtime module on the end user's computer. When the runtime module is already installed, the ebook startup time is highly reduced.

Compile your ebook again and you are done.
