=====Portable Publications and Ebooks made with HTML Executable - Troubleshooting=====
HTML Executable lets you [[http://help.htmlexe.com/portablepub.htm#LockPub lock a portable publication to a given USB disk]]. This secured publication will run on every computer but it cannot be copied to another USB-stick/computer, otherwise it will stop working or it will run in a unregistered mode.
If a registered publication fails to identify its USB disk properly on a computer, it will work in the unregistered mode.
====Possible causes if a USB-locked portable publication does not work on a given computer:====
- Make sure the computer meets the [[http://help.htmlexe.com/technicalnotes.htm minimum system requirements]], especially the Windows® version: 2000, XP, 2003 Server, Vista, 2008, Seven, or higher.
- HTML Executable uses the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Management_Instrumentation Windows Management Instrumentation]] (WMI) service to determine whether the publication is running on a USB stick, and to retrieve the manufacturer serial number. WMI is preinstalled in all Windows versions listed above. According to [[http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa826517(VS.85).aspx Microsoft documentation]], WMI runs as a service with the display name "Windows Management Instrumentation" and the service name "winmgmt". WMI runs automatically at system startup under the LocalSystem account. If WMI is not running, it automatically starts when the first management application or script requests connection to a WMI namespace.
**If the WMI service is not correctly installed or is disabled by administrators, the publication may not work**
